ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
Established in the academic year 2008-09, the Department of History at SGTRM Government Degree College has been a hub of academic excellence. Initially there was HEP Group in BA with history, Political Science and Economics as combination in the Academic Year 2023-24 BA HEP Was transformed in to BA honours as per NEP 2020 Accordingly We offer History as a major subject, combined with Political Science as a minor. Our department is committed to providing students with a comprehensive understanding of historical events, perspectives, and cultural contexts. To achieve this, we facilitate debates and discussions to sharpen critical thinking and analytical skills, field visits to historical sites and museums to bring history to near life. The department of History has been consistently getting a pass percentage ranging between 90 to 100%.Since the college is located in a village with very little socio educational awareness most of the Students who entered the Degree Course are slow learners and from very low economic background
OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT ARE
- Providing students with up to date knowledge regarding History
- Bring awareness among the students about socio-Cultural traits of the past generations
- To bring awareness about importance of local Histories
- To make the Students aware of the cultural heritage of India from Old stone age
- To enlighten students about relevance of History and its application to the present political, economic and social problems

- The Department is having highly qualified lecturer with multi-faceted knowledge
- The Department always try to make the study of History as inter disciplinary showing its relationship with other social sciences
- The Department conducts Remedial classes to slow learners
- The Department Provides Study material at the end of every Unit regularly
- The Department conducts Group Discussion regarding cross cutting issue like Human values and professional ethics and so on
- The Department encourages intra group discussion among students about current burning issues apart from Historical issues
- The Department tries to bring Leadership qualities and gender equality among students as majority students come from low socio -economic back ground
- The Department arranges informal talk with old students to motivate the present Students
- The Department regularly encourages students actively participates in extra -curricular and extension activities

- The Department conducts informal interaction with Advanced Learners about their future career
- The Department conducts Peer teaching to get the students into active teaching mode
- The Department uses ICT tools often to bring up to date pedagogy to the Students
- The Department conducts inter disciplinary Peer teaching to the Science students
- The Department conduct guest lectures with History back ground officers settled in other departments
- The Department created a competitive examination WhatsApp group with the help of History departments in other colleges
- The Department shares the proceedings of prestigious national and international conferences like South Indian History Congress, Indian History congress and so on

Program Outcomes
Graduate Attributes in B.A. History (Honours)
B.A. Honours in History programme (under CBCS), has a balanced course
content adequately covering the evolution of human civilization from time
immemorial to recent times. Though there are four papers on Indian History,
students have sufficient exposure to the Far East, the U.S.A. and the Modern
West.
